So, today is the day! After months of learning to run, hours of sweaty training, and days of aching muscles, it is finally time to put my legs to the test. Yes, the Leiden Marathon is here!
I signed up for the 10k run, but there’s also a 2.5k kids run, 5k run, and full and half marathons. The full and half marathons are well underway (they started at 10:30), so if you’re interested in checking out the runners you can go to the finish line on the vismarkt in front of the city hall, on the canal side where the Saturday market is. I guess speedy half-marathon runners might even be passing the finish line now…
As for me, I’ll be lining up on the starting line in the Breestraat at 14:30. With any luck I’ll pass the finish line just over an hour later, with a smile on my face and minimal aches. The weather is pretty awful – high winds and looming rain clouds – but I’m already looking forward to a hot shower and celebratory beer afterwards.
Wish me (and all the other runners) luck!
Hope you had a great time at the marathon and celebrating afterwards.
Would the Leidener be interested in an article on second hand shops in Leiden? There is some good stuff out there for free and for very low prices.
Thanks! It was hard work, but a great challenge to complete. Good idea about the second hand shops in Leiden, I think it’s something all new students in Leiden should know about!
Please let me know how to get in touch with you, then! You have my email.
