I’m one of those people who cannot study at home. My cozy bed is always too tempting and that’s why I always go to the Library. Well, lets say I used to go. Even though Leiden University has very good libraries with diverse study atmospheres you cannot eat or drink in any of the rooms. And I love having coffee or snacks when I’m studying. In the end, this situation made me try out cafes in the center to see where can I study but also have delicious snacks!
Here are my favorite cafes in Leiden to study.
1. Francobolli.
This is one of the most interesting cafes I’ve ever been. The name of the place tells it all, which means post stamps in Italian. You can buy one of the many post cards in the cafe, write to whom every you like (in the Netherlands or abroad) and place it on the delivery wall. Francobolli will send it for you on the day you want!
Wall for Delivery
But if we get back to the topic, the place has no music, which makes it perfect for studying. Also, it might appear like very small from outside but it actually has three floors! And the third floor is always filled with other students studying so you don’t feel alone.
My favorite drink: Hot chocolate
Opening Hours: Sunday – Monday: 11:00 to 18:00
Tuesday – Saturday: 10:00 to 18:00
2. Coffee Company
If you’ve ever been here you’ve probably seen bunch of people at the back with their laptops. I think here is not only one of my favorites but also many others’. Whenever I come here there are always many others studying/working and it makes me even more motivated to get work done.
One big plus for an early bird like me is that they open very early on the weekends! I love coming here before the Law Library opens and have my coffee.
My favorite drink: Chai Tea
Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 08:00 to 19:00
Tuesday – Saturday: 09:00 to 19:00
3. Legal Café (Cafe of the Law Faculty of the Leiden University)
All cafes of the Leiden University are pretty much the same. They offer the same food and drink options. But I find the one in the Law Building the most appropriate for studying. This place is a nice option if you want to study while eating for a decent price. Last but not least, they’re open till very late!
My favorite drink: Cappuccino & a small muffin (only for 2 euro)
Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 08:30 to 19:00
