Some of you might still be waiting for the you have been accepted to Leiden response, some others might have that yes already secured in their pocket. In both cases, you might want to write down a checklist of things to do before moving into this amazing little city. Well, don’t worry too much, I made a check-list for you! Let’s have a look at the 3 essential things to do before moving to Leiden! In this part of the guide, I’ll give you some suggestions on how to find a house: it is true, it is a struggle to find a house in Leiden but it is not impossible!
Facebook: My first suggestion is to check out the Facebook Page Leiden Student Housing. Here, both students and landlords post available rooms, apartments so on and so forth. It is very helpful to start looking there, especially if you are in search of a housemate. Be careful though, sometimes there can be scams and fake advertisement! Always double check the identity of the landlord before making any payment.
Agencies: Alternatively, there are many agencies in town which will help you find a place. However, they are often quite expensive and they generally arrange group viewings which might not suite you, especially if you are still abroad. In any case, getting in touch with the agencies might be a good alternative since they basically do the searching for you!
Websites: Have also a look at Kamernet! By paying a fee for a month (around 25 euro), you can view many apartments and all the adds posted by private landlords. It is a more secure way, since all the transactions are made via the platform. Also Housing Anywhere is quite good to start your search.
Do not forget The Hague! Being a bigger city, The Hague offers more housing and it is literally 10 mins by train from Leiden!
Looking for a house can be frustrating but in the end you are going to find the right room for you, don’t give up!
