The Hague Market or Haagse Markt

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of visiting The Hague Market for the first time, and I must say it was an extraordinary and unparalleled shopping experience.

At this market, you can find an extensive array of products, ranging from (exotic) fruits, vegetables, and spices to a diverse selection of meat and fresh fish. In addition to that, there are rear booths where you can explore cloth and jewelry items. The best part is that the products are incredibly affordable, and the quality of the food is top-notch. Many of the groceries are sold in quite large baskets, with each bowl typically costing around 1€.

I managed to get 1kg of tomatoes for only 1€, 7 passion fruits for 1.50€, 6 paprikas for 1€, and even a bucket full of apples for just 0.50€. With such budget-friendly prices, my wallet had a chance to relax, making it perfect for cooking for a larger group or preserving groceries. If you plan on visiting, it’s a great idea to invite some friends. However, do exercise caution not to get carried away with buying too much, as the tempting low prices might lead you to overshop.

For those who have a bit more time on their hands, I would recommend taking a look around and comparing the offers and prices before making your purchases. As you explore the market, you’ll notice that many retailers sell the same kind of groceries, and finding the best deals can be a rewarding experience.

The Haagse Markt operates four days a week, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, from 9 am to 5 pm. To avoid the hustle and bustle of the crowded part of the day, consider arriving early. The market attracts an impressive number of visitors, with approximately 40,000 people passing through its 500 booths every day. It’s undoubtedly a vibrant and bustling place.

Getting to this fantastic market is easy using public transport. You can get off at “Het Hobbemaplein” with trams 6, 11, 12, or bus 25, or at “de Hoefkade” with tram 11, 12, or bus 127, 130.

I hope my account has sparked your interest, and I’m sure that visiting The Hague Market will leave you with a wonderful and unforgettable feeling. Happy shopping!
